Water is an essential component for life. Every organism has some needs to be fulfil it. Water is one of them which people are using water daily for drinking, washing, bathing and other. Whereas Water covers about 71% of earth surface. However, from that over 96% saline water and only 4% is fresh water. Of total fresh water, over 68% is locked in glaciers and ice and another 30% is in ground.
Despite that, our planet’s freshwater resources are limited. With expanding population on the earth, there is increasing pressure on these assets by which, water wasting problem occurring among people. So, more people using water without thinking their limitations, more the chances of water to be finished. There is some other reason which shows why water wasting is a huge problem for us like anthropocentric, biocentric, and ecocentric.
Anthropocentric: Fresh water is only resource for people to survive. Anthropocentric means something related to some elements used by human being for their own use. We can say that only few percent water is available for us to consume. There are different stocks of freshwater and depends upon their recharging rate and usage rate given by every nation. According to World Resources Institute 36 countries faced extremely high stress conditions which means more than 80 percent of the water available to agricultural, domestic and industrial users is withdrawn annually—leaving businesses, farms and communities.
Most of the water is used for cleaning, drinking, cooking and other household processes so water level is going down day by day and if today we cannot figure it out the solution of this problem, then eventually the world have to face certain water-borne diseases, and scarcity regarding agriculture practices which leads to starvation.

Biocentric: water is not meant for only human use. Every organism requires water to complete their biological reactions in body. In biocentric reason, it includes plants and animals. Water is fundamental unit for agriculture and domesticated animals for their existence. So, it shows water is the resource on which every species depends.
Likewise, freshwater is also needed for the aquatic atmosphere to make environmental balance, somehow plants and animals are comprising because of water pollution or scarcity and these species became endangered. As we are also the part of this biosphere, every organism is dependent on each other.
Ecocentrically: With increasing demand of freshwater because of increase in population means pulling out ground water regeneration rate is lower than the extraction rate. Moreover, water takes plenty of vitality, time and cash to filter and clean with the goal that it’s drinkable. To achieve this goal, we are wasting the energy to filtrate rather than saving the freshwater or put limitations on our overusage.
The numerous means of this procedure—extraction, transportation, filtration, and so on.— require non-sustainable, non-renewable energy sources and as these assets become drained, their risky side-effects, for example, carbon dioxide develop in the Earth’s air, adding to your carbon footprint and the Earth’s rising temperatures.
Rainwater preservation
Today one of serious problem which effects climate change is water scarcity. The rainwater preservation is the one of the methods which can might play a role to reduce the effect on environment. Here`s the question how we can preserve the rainwater and is it effective and how it helps to sustain the environment?
There are several methods by which we can save rainwater like storing rainwater in the rooftop system and surface runoff harvesting system. The surface runoff harvesting system helps to recharge the aquifers whereas in rooftop, either it could be collected in tank or can change the path so that we can collect the water into artificial recharge system of the ground water1.
The merits of rainwater preservation are maintaining the healthy soils. It can extend the soil moisture levels for development of vegetation; We can also recharge the groundwater, so it helps the level to raise. restore hydrologic cycle. The cost for the installation of rainwater harvesting system is also low2.
It is very beneficial project because we are getting a chance to refill the groundwater in low cost. Then, we can use this water as irrigation purposes, drinking purposes. This harvesting system helps to reduce the problems like floods, waterlogging, changes in climate, water pollution, water scarcity mainly occurred in urban areas. The most important the water table level increase which is reducing day by day because of problems like urbanization, increase in pollution and overpopulation.
Overall, every problem concern with environment is linked to one another in today`s world and we really need to find some solution. For instance, overpopulation results into more usage of resources, instead of using without concerning about the next generation people are wasting or we can say overusing the resources like water. If there will be no water resources, there will be no life. So, to conserve the water, the rainwater harvesting system is the one of method to conserve it which is cost effective and helps to reduce the water scarcity problems. People can use this water for drinking after doing proper filtration technique. Also, helps to recharge the ground water. We can maintain the balance between the exploitation and regeneration of the resources.
